Holy Cross Abbey is located on 200 acres at the eastern edge of Cañon City. The monastery building is a charming, four-story, English Gothic structure that has been enrolled in the National Registry of Historical Places.
The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey is located on the beautiful grounds of the Holy Cross Abbey in Canon City, CO.
I recently took some out of town guests to visit the grounds of the Abbey. We visited the monastary and oooohed and ahhhhed at the incredible architecture of the buildings. We slowly walked around beautifully sculptured grounds admiring the gardens yet to blossom and the intricate details of the buildings. I especially loved the windows!
We then explored the inside, marveling in all the different rooms. We finally caught our breath as we sat quietly in the chapel. The light shining through the stain glass windows was beautiful. Amazing how peace comes in many different ways...
Afterwards we walked over to the winery, where we sampled several different wines with some really delicious wine and pepper crackers. We loved the unique taste so much we both left with more than a few bags to compliment the wines we just purchased! It was a wonderful fun-filled day.
The Holy Cross Abbey is a great way to spend an afternoon and a great place to take out of town visitors. The price is certainly right! IT'S FREE!
