Showcasing her voice Christina Perri has managed to captivate fans everywhere. From the moment "Jar of Hearts" was first heard on "So You Think You Can Dance" Christina Perri has been on the go. Within a week of that airing, her song was rising quickly into the top 40 and she was talking record deal. Her career was taking off in ways one can only dream of. While performing as the opening act for pop sensation James Blunt in Denver recently, she tells the story... "it was just one year ago I was a waitress in LA".
Christina pulled off an amazingly touching and heartfelt performance in Denver. The audience just loved her. Those who came to see Blunt definitely left a Perri fan. She spoke often of the heartaches she's been through and her music reflects that. Her lyrics express an intensity of emotion that reasonates with everyone. Her voice just pulls you into her world and yet keeps you in touch with your own painful memories. She does this with grace and simplicity of her melodic vocals, piano and strings.
"Lovestrong" Christina's first full length Cd hit the stores this week. Although her voice is indeed captivating, her album, like her live perfomance, reflects all the pain and heartache she's been through. Song after song, lyric after lyric, we mostly hear the heartache. However, I love Bang, Bang, Bang. It's one of the few upbeat songs on the CD where she brings an attitude to the song and finally takes control;
Bang, Bang, Bang boy You're going down, down, down boy To the ground where you left my heart to bleed Bang she shot you Karma taste so sweet
Veering from all her pain and suffering she does "Penquin", a song that speaks of meeting your soul mate and your best friend. "Love like this is all I want...Like a soul mate your my penquin."
During her live show she walks to the center microphone as she talks about how penquins tend to find their mates and how most of them will stay together for their entire lives. At the mic she is joined by her guitarist where together they do an acoustic version of "Penquin". You can hear a pin drop, we were mesmerized. The audience loved it.
Christina Perri has the potential for much success. It's refreshing to hear such natural talent not only as a singer, a musician but a songwriter as well, one who tells stories we can all relate to. She does this without having to resort to tricks or outrageous stage shows. For me this only further testifies to her potential.
I wish her a most successful career.
